And you’re about to do the same …
When you want to take your guitar playing to the next level, you know you can’t just go to your typical online guitar video site and get what you need. Thousands of videos to sift through – most of them geared towards absolute beginners – do nothing but burn your time.
That’s why I created MortensLessons.com for you – so you could learn the guitar skills you want to master in the same way as we’d do it live, and in person.
You’ll get high-definition, multi-camera angle videos that make you feel like you’re sitting right next to me, looking over my shoulder, and seeing how to play like a pro. (I’ll show you a video in just a moment.)
You’ll get carefully planned lessons with real musical value – not just general concepts – that you can use in your playing right now. (I’ve been a professional musician for almost 20 years and I know you don’t want to just learn HOW to play – you want to learn how to make these ideas fit YOUR musical style.)
You’ll get backing tracks to practice with, Guitar Pro files to tweak to your liking, tabs, and so much more … give me just a minute, and I’ll walk you through exactly how I’m going to help you master all of the guitar secrets you can handle.
“Morten Faerestrand is an incredibly talented guitarist who is doing solid, ground breaking work as an online guitar instructor.”- Stig Mathisen, guitar professor, GIT

You’re guaranteed that you’ll find everything you need to be a well rounded jazz guitarist, and a great improviser.
You’ll remember I said earlier that I’ve been a professional musician for almost 20 years, but I didn’t get to that point without paying my dues.
I studied at Mannes Jazz College in New York and at Berklee College of Music in Boston, so I’m not only very well-versed in musical theory, but I know exactly what it’s like to be the student learning it.
I spent quite a lot of money – and many years of my time – developing the fundamental skills that made me a professional. That’s why I’ve crafted MortensLessons.com to take all of the “fluff” out and teach in the way that actually WILL improve your playing and improvisational skills.
But I also know that you probably don’t want to hear me go on for long about my background and experience – so I’d love to let you read a few notes from students just like you who are mastering the guitar from these lessons …
I’m a quite experienced player and been playing for 35 years by now. Still I find Mortens Lessons most inspiring and creative, spotting unusual concepts as well as common issues.
Whoever who wants to study the guitar in depth, will benefit from Mortens outstanding knowledge, regardless of style or skills. I hardly ever seen such a good approach to guitar teaching, and recommend anyone who wants to step further to check out this.
5 stars of 5!!!!

I have been following Morten for well over a year. I was there when he started doing his blogs. Morten is the sole reason that inspired me to start playing guitar again after a 11 year hiatus.
Morten is incredible at finding melodic, harmonic and rhythmic devices that suit his style to a tee. He often speaks about the ways he has overcome certain disadvantages such as his right hand alternate picking etc…It is hard to believe that he has any disadvantages due to the level of his musicianship and the difficulty of his material. This insight was profound. He had the honesty to proclaim this and the modesty and lack of ego to be believable. That was the first real lesson that I got from him.
One of the main things I have learned from Morten is to adapt. I have realized that I am not near his level of proficiency, though I have played since 76 and am not a novice. I have learned to take his ideas and make them my own. His phrasing and intevallic motif’s are exceptional. If one really looks at his ideas they will see that they are applicable to any style or genre. Morten is a true Master. I look for him to go far in the Music World. His original compositions are excellent. His interpretations of Jazz is phenomenal to say the least! I call him Sensei because it is a term of respect fitting a Master.
I recommend Morten to any serious player that is at least an advanced beginner or intermediate player. Even an advanced player can glean much from Morten’s idea’s and lessons. I am still a regular subscriber even though I have another instructor. If you want to learn to be musical and break through the gimmicks and limited usage that most players have with their ideas, this man will take you far. Just be willing to be blown away and work your butt off. I look forward to following Mortens journey and will be subscribing to his website for a long time. The only thing that I do not like about the internet instruction is that I do not live near enough to him to take lessons personally, because if I could, I would!!
Sensei is the man!

Morten is a guitar player that I would emulate, if just I had the talent and time to learn. He has the sound, the intelligence and sensitivity to the music that I am always looking for.
As a teacher, Morten impressed me since the first time that I caught one of his lessons through YouTube. His explanations are rather complete, without ever being boring (he has a subtle sense of humour too).
The subjects covered by Morten are usually new to most of us (such as how to acquire agility if you are not a good alternate picker ). The structure of his lessons is also very interesting. Morten has this non-arrogant approach which is a winner to lead us through the chores of learning from simple to intricate skills. Other lessons that one may watch on YouTube usually touch on the same subject – scales. And this can be learned better through readings and exercises.
I would recommend Morten’s lessons to all guitar players interested to develop their trade on a very smooth (but effective) way. Every time I watch one of them I acquire a new knowledge of the instrument and myself. And even though I am not able to successfully master the majority of skills that Morten is teaching, I feel that I improve my playing and understanding with every lesson that he uploads.
Thank you, Morten. I wish that you continue to share with us your wisdom.
Peace and Prosperity.

Of course, Morten can shred. But that’s not the reason why I‘ve subscribed to his online lessons. What I appreciate most about his lessons are his focus on rhythmic aspects of soloing, and his versatility to spank the plank from straight ahead rock’n’roll and fusion all the way to blues, latin and jazz.
And most of all: Every lesson contains a few solos where he actually applies the stuff he’s teaching and plays real MUSIC. That may sound a bit obvious but in my opinion there are far too many people who simply want to show off their chops. Morten is definitely not one of them.

Morten is a gifted musician and music educator. His understanding of the guitar is vast beyond his years, his playing and demonstrations inspiring.
The materials he presents with each lesson are interesting, relevant to current trends in the industry and clearly, functionally written out in standard notation and tab. He treats his students with understanding, respect, and humor.
I’ve been a professional musician for more than a few decades and have never found an on-line site or even DVD’s that compare to his half hour sessions. He’s helped me transition from a classical player to a jazz player, and taught me many new ways of engaging my own students and I am thankful to him beyond the meager price he asks for his on-line sessions. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

I want to tell you one thing : THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH !
Your lessons are great ! you are sharing so much with us, i think you are the MOST GENEROUS GUITAR PLAYER ON THE INTERNET, that’s so kind !
I think the best with your lessons is that you share the way you intellectually get to the musical ideas, and that’s great !
I really enjoyed the videos on how you build a song, how you started from zero and gradually got the ideas, this is really valuable information for all of us who want to understand and get better in the process of making music which is a hard work.
Beside the fact that you are an incredibly talented guitar player, i think you are the greatest teacher i found on the internet.

Hi Morten, I’ve been a guitar player for about 15 years, and I’ve taught myself predominantly by ear. I think this has given me a quirky style which I have aimed for but has also mean’t missing large chunks of theory and chord knowledge.
I have always wanted to incorporate some jazz into my playing and your lesson on “Understanding Jazz Chords” has helped me a lot, I think it is by far the clearest explanation I have come across. Rather than learning licks and riffs this has helped my writing and composition, which will always improve your overall guitar playing. Thank you, and keep it up.

The Live Lessons have help me cover some things I hadn’t learned at the beginner level, like capo use, and the intermediate, and advanced pro challenge me to reach higher.
I like the fact that Morten gets us to think in terms of making valid music and not just look at the lessons as exercises.
I’d recommend the lessons to anyone who wants to create music !
